Hilton Head - Things to Do & Tourist Attractions
While in Hilton Head, head over to see the Harbor Town Lighthouse which is the famous island landmark highlighted in white and red. The concrete tower offers splendid views of the bay and sea. The observation deck atop the tower also features a quality gift shop and some important displays of the history of the tower and its surroundings. The palmetto Dunes Plantation is popular for its three championship golf courses and its lovely beaches. However, the beaches have not been as much famous as the gold courses but are not to be missed. Visit the Audubon Newhall Preserve is a forest covering 50 acres which is 20 hectares of land featuring various species of trees, plants and other vegetation. The forests are also home to numerous species of fauna with birdlife in particular. Take a trip to the Sea Pines Forest Preserve full of forests, lagoons and coastline. This facility also provides ample amenities for family camping. Most of the boutique hotels downtown Hilton Head as well as the Hilton head four star hotels provided guided tours to these attractions.
Hilton Head is not famous for its museums and art galleries per say, however there are some interesting places to check out on the island. The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina is a good place to start with which provides amazing facilities for exhibitionists to display visual or performing arts. The center also hosts musicals, dramas, concerts and puppet shows. Visit the Coastal Discovery Museum to know more about the island's biodiversity and history. Visitors are treated with both indoor and outdoor exhibitions. Do not miss the beautiful Butterfly Garden while there which has a wide variety of the native flora as well as the winged insects. Guided tours are available at the entrance to take visitors through the museum.
Located close to the island is Savanna which is in the neighboring state of Georgia and within an hour's drive from Hilton Head. Interesting attractions at Savannah include the Historic District, Old Town Trolley Tours and the Forsyth Park. Also featured are the carriage rides and horse rides which are a very pleasurable way to explore the city. Visit the St. Luke's Episcopal Church which is a Children's Chapel popular for its architecture and interiors. Some of the several golf courses on the island are the Bear Creek Golf Club, the Belfair Golf Club and the Country Club of Hilton Head.
